Beerology enters its second round<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From October 16 to November 6, 2024, it was that time again \u2013 Beerology in Dresden's Neustadt district. On four evenings, science fans and beer lovers alike flocked to the Mondpalast, where exciting lectures and cool beers ensured that the good mood flowed freely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Science on tap \u2013 a format that has proven itself<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After a successful launch in 2023, Beerology returned to the Zapfanstalt Dresden in fall 2024\u2014this time as a series of events. Over a period of four weeks in October and November, a total of four science pub evenings took place. Two were in English and two in German. The tried-and-tested concept remained the same: science made understandable, entertaining, and accessible in a relaxed pub atmosphere with direct interaction with the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Four unusual pub nights<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Creative science you can touchThe kickoff took us into the exciting world of digital security and data encryption\u2014basically the protective shield of the internet. Right after that, we got to the bottom of how our brains shape perception and truth, and how sure we can really be that we're seeing reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Am zweiten Abend verschmolzen Wissenschaft und Alltag: War die Verf\u00fchrung von Zucker und Fett vielleicht eine heimliche Liaison zwischen Forschung und Lebensmittelindustrie? Parallel entf\u00fchrten uns Mini-Organe, sogenannte Leber-Organoide, in die faszinierende Laborwelt, in der winzige Mini-Organe gez\u00fcchtet werden, um Krankheiten besser zu verstehen und neue Medikamente zu testen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The German evenings took a different approach. Here, the focus was on the tactile Internet and the question of how digital technologies could enable haptic perception. A tongue-in-cheek look at speech and hearing errors showed how our brain plays tricks on us when we listen. Another presentation opened our eyes to the hidden communication in our intestines and how it can be vital for survival. Finally, there was an insight into developmental biology using the example of the quail: How does the heart know where to go? And how does the body's blueprint control the formation of complex organs?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creative science you can touch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As in the previous year, the response was overwhelming. The Zapfanstalt was well attended on all evenings, the audience was curious, and the discussions were lively. Beerology 2024 demonstrated that the format works\u2014in both German and English. The combination of science, pub atmosphere, and genuine encounters makes us eager for more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
