#SciCom for Everybody
We host events like Science Festivals, public talks, exhibitions, and interactive sessions, all aimed at making science engaging and tangible, while also connecting scientists with the urban community
This is us
Science is part of our daily lives, from using our smartphones, to using the oven or visiting the doctor. At Live Science e.V., we
firmly believe that scientific knowledge should be accessible to all and serve the interests of the people. We are committed to breaking down barriers between scientific research and the public, empowering individuals to actively participate in scientific policymaking, stay updated on healthcare developments, and confidently embrace modern technology.
We are a non-profit organization founded in 2023 by a group of passionate scientists who are dedicated to building bridges between cutting - edge research and the public. Our aim is to make science and scientists approachable, thereby contributing to a society that values scientific education.
Creating female role models in science
Our strong focus is on establishing women as role models in the field of science, inspiring both girls and boys. We aim to show young people that science is exciting and accessible to everyone.
However,
the current statistics reveal a gender gap in research and STEM fields. Despite being half of
the workforce, globally, women comprise less than 30% of researchers, and in Germany, only around 35% of STEM university degree applicants are women. Moreover, this gender gap becomes even more pronounced in executive and higher positions within STEM disciplines. Additionally, racial and ethnic barriers create challenges in terms of pay and opportunities within the STEM industry.
Girls often shy away from pursuing STEM subjects due to self-doubt. Boosting self-assurance is crucial, and that's where creating strong female role models in STEM and highlighting exceptional achievements of female researchers come into play. This plays a key role in our even series Soapbox Science.
By giving visibility to female role models in STEM, our goal is to empower and encourage the next generation of female scientists. We want to help them discover and nurture their passion for science. Through outreach, education projects, and mentorship programs, we're dedicated to sparking their interest and supporting their success in this field.
Enhancing Communication Skills
At Live Science, we aim to create a community where scientists are accessible and engaged. Through our events, we provide training and support to help improve their communication and outreach abilities. We collaborate with skilled communication trainers, including accomplished Science Slam presenters like Simon Hauser.
Fostering Collaboration and Transparency
We collaborate with other scientific institutions in Dresden to establish a robust network of resources and support, leveraging synergies. Together, we advocate for a society where science is accessible to all, valuing internationality, diversity, and inclusion in the realm of science.
We are part of the Women@DDc network, which aims to better connect and amplify the visibility of female researchers across all career stages and female science managers within the DRESDEN-concept research alliance.
As a non-profit organization, we highly prioritize transparent and responsible financial practices. Our mission is to promote a scientific culture that is open to all, providing women and minorities in the field of science the opportunity to shine as leaders in their respective domains.
